About SlumCheck
SlumCheck is a place to read and write reviews of somewhere you have actually lived.
What this site is for
Almost everything written about a rental is written by whoever is trying to let it. SlumCheck is the other half: what it is like to live there, from people who did — the building, the management, the neighbours, the things you only find out after you move in.
You can look up any address without an account. Reading reviews needs nothing from you at all.
What a review covers
Reviews come in two lengths. A simple review is a few questions and takes a minute. A full review walks through the property in detail — condition, management, cost, noise, safety, amenities — and questions that do not apply to your kind of home are not asked. Anything you skip is recorded as unanswered rather than as a bad score, so a short review never drags an address down.
Ratings are averaged per question rather than rolled into one number, and each average is shown with how many people answered that particular question. Two ratings and two hundred should not look the same.
Where the addresses come from
The address list is assembled from open data — roughly 160 million records — so that most places can be found without anyone having to add them first. If yours is missing you can request it.
Crediting those sources is a condition of the licences they are published under, and the details are on Data and privacy, along with what the site does and does not collect about you.
